While we are sorry we were not able to see everyone at PIE this year, we are honored to accept the Parking Today Award for Outstanding Parking Garage on behalf of the University of California, San Diego for the Osler Parking Structure and Visitor’s Center.

For the Osler Parking Structure, University of California, San Diego or UCSD was looking for a design that went far beyond the number of stalls, structural efficiency and gross square footage associated with a parking structure. Instead, they wanted it to enrich the campus experience.

To achieve this goal, the design-build team examined the site holistically rather than just focusing on the parking structure. As the site for the parking structure is located at the front door to the campus, it is the first and last building visited on campus for many people. With this in mind, the team proposed a design that also featured a reimagined Visitor’s Center to create a new gateway to the campus.

In addition to the new Visitor’s Center, the resulting parking structure includes an innovative architectural façade that seamlessly integrates the structure with an existing historic eucalyptus grove. It maximizes efficiency by going above and beyond the original program’s stall count. It also incorporates numerous sustainable features and improves the user experience through an innovative parking guidance system.

Congratulations to UC San Diego, as well as our outstanding Design-Build team of Swinerton and Gensler.

In this time of social distancing, our experts are still here to support your parking needs. We would be happy to talk to you from our home offices if you have questions, concerns or needs during this time and beyond.
