The Swinerton | Watry Design team was honored to receive a National Award of Merit in Aviation for the San Diego International Airport Terminal 2 Parking Plaza at the 2019 Design-Build Conference & Expo in Las Vegas.

The design-build team collaborated closely with stakeholders to deliver on the Airport's vision of a parking facility that would elevate the user experience. Featuring public art installations, technology designed to expedite the parking process and sustainable features that resulted in Parksmart Gold certification, the Parking Plaza provides nearly 2,700 structured stalls.

The team overcame a number of challenges to deliver the Plaza ahead of schedule and under budget, including concealing miles of conduit within the concrete slab and developing an innovative foundation solution that not only mitigates up to 3" of soil liquefaction during an earthquake, but also saved over $2 million in construction costs.
